The effect is reminiscent of paintings by Claude. There is a note of nostalgia for youthful days on the Grand Tour to Italy, which completed a Classical education. But the main purpose of the makers of these flashes was more serious: to penetrate and, as it were, liberate an ideal lying beneath the common face of nature. Also, look at his horse- his horse is amazing.
